Dragon Warrior - Tiger Wizard
Warlock Roc - Bat Alchemist
The Mad Dungeon podcast has two formats. First, members of Epic Levels and a guest from the RPG community create a system-neutral, playable one-page adventure map using improv, comedy, and lifetimes wasted on roleplaying games. They then publish and release these adventures as a PDF through their Patreon and for free on this very site. They also release Side Quest episodes where the hosts discuss games they’ve played and gaming news.

Our guests this week are Erik & Heidi Gygax Garland (GAXLAND, Egg Con) and Matt Forbeck (Marvel Multiverse RPG, Shotguns & Sorcery, Warhammer 40k, Minecraft) as we continue our Gary Con 2024 series of 50 years of Dungeons and Dragons interviews.
We talk with Erik & Heidi about getting married, gun stuff, growing up Gygax, the Satanic panic, and moving back to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Their GAXLAND products include D&D campaign modules including a boxed set of three OD&D style digest books: Curse of Candlelight Manor (for OD&D, 5e and C&C), a two-module project The Burning Briar, and Iron Giant (AD&D, 5e, and C&C), as well as a themed cookbook Dining & Dragons – A Gygax Girl’s Cookbook, featuring some Gygax family favorite recipes and stories behind them.
We talk with Matt Forbeck about Marvel Multiverse RPG, Cataclysm of Kang, the X-Men Expansion and then the Spider-Verse Expansion. Playing the ‘80s Marvel Super Heroes RPG when it came out and running it at an early Gen Con. We talk about our favorite X-Men villains. Matt likes Mr. Sinister and how he exploits Moira MacTaggert. We talked about his time at TSR working with Gary Gygax and running Pinnacle Entertainment Group. We talked about some of his novels, interactive audio adventures, comics and video games.
