MD 234 Gold in the Blood w/ Max Moon (Abyss of Hallucinations, Twelve Years RPG)
This immaculate, gold-plated room’s walls have an opulent bas relief carved into white wax and accented with gold gilded flourishes and gold filigree. It depicts scenes documenting the process of making gold heads culminating in last year’s winners of the “best costume” contest. They’re making these heads as macabre costumes for a Mardi Gras-esque festival back in Fairyland, with their head through a hole in the top, arms through the ear holes and their legs coming out of the neck hole. They can fly while wearing the heads. The smell of molten gold and gore here is potent. The doors to this room are cracked to let it air out.
Gold Heads: 1d100 heads are scattered around the floor like a production line—a ramshackle museum of blobby, half-melted, screaming faces of gold. Some of the heads have gold smoke wisps coming out of them as fairies are just chillin’ in there, smoking gold foil joints.
Gold Fairies: These one-foot tall creatures with golden skin and wings are stoned and having a good time. Their goal is to get you into the hotbox and collect your head. They’re trying to get to 100 heads. If you’re the 100th head, they’ll cleanse the room in fire with the wizard crucible. They’ll offer you their fairy weed and try to talk you into the hotbox. “Come into our art gallery.” “Don’t worry, we’re just smoking this gold.”
The Hotbox: This phone booth sized box is horribly stained with blood and has three chambers. The topmost contains molten gold in a magic crucible above the door, originally invented by a wizard to keep his soup hot. Below that is a chamber large enough for a human to stand in. Once the door is closed, the molten gold is poured over their head. A guillotine mechanism severs the head and contains it in the “head chamber.” A trap door grate opens beneath the chamber, dropping the body down a chute into the compactor pit. The gold head is then easily retrieved by the fairies.
Compactor pit: This narrow pit is filled with waist-deep blood that’s peppered with gold flecks. The walls then compact to turn the corpse into a meat cube. There are as many meat cubes down here (and their loot) as the 1d100 rolled for heads earlier. Living here in the gore is an amorphous carrion devourer made primarily of eyeball stalks.
